Happy October!

10/5/2017

I hope you all had a great summer!

First off, I want to thank my wonderful clients for all of your kind words and prayers for my father. The last few months have been hectic and stressful as you can imagine. Your understanding and patience these past few months has been very much appreciated as I help him on his road to healing and improved health. It has not been an easy time but I just wanted to say thank you again!

Before I get into the specials and rundown for this month, I wanted to take a moment to reach out. I have learned these past few months, that life is too short. We all know this but we take it for granted. Watching my father's health take a sudden nosedive has been stressful. We all go through these times when life seems to just throw one thing after the next and sometimes, it can be overwhelming. Sometimes, we can get stuck in the stress mode, stuck in the negative thinking and stuck in the sad. There is always a choice on how you wish to handle your day. You can be miserable or you can be thankful for what you have. You can be angry or you can smile. So, my friends, I tell you today, though life may be difficult at times, it is important to always remember that it is also precious. The people in your life that upset you the most are the people that teach you the greatest lessons about yourself and the world. Be grateful. Be grateful to have family and friends that love you and that you love. They may not be perfect but they are yours. Remember, no one is perfect. Not you, not I. We all make mistakes. We all have our lessons to learn and ways we can improve. We all have our rough moments and bad days. We are all struggling in one way or another. Be forgiving. Be patient. Be kind especially to those you find difficult because those are the ones that need it the most. Be grateful you can wake up and have the choice to start your day on a positive note or a negative one. Strive to find a balance and always take care of yourself. Focus on the gift in the moment. That is my new mantra.  I wish you all love and peace. I hope you find the small moments in your day to take a few deep breaths and relax. Life is short, focus on the gift in the moment. Namaste.

The Science Behind Elemental Massage

7/5/2017

There is a 50% off special running in July for those on my email list! Sign up for the special discount code!

This treatment combines all the best gifts of nature into one massage! Combining the elements of nature with sound  promotes deep relaxation and stress detoxification.

Water: Essential Oil Water & Steamed Warm Towels

Customized essential oils mixed with water are lightly misted over the body. Inhaling the aroma of essential oils crosses the blood brain barrier immediately upon inhalation.
It stimulates the Limbic System of the brain; which regulates mood and emotions. The medicinal properties of the plants, flowers and herbs absorbs into the skin into the bloodstream within minutes.

Fire/Air: Sage Smudging and Frankincense/Myrrh Incense

Sage has been used by indigenous peoples for thousands of years as a healing and purifying agent. The same with Frankincense and Myrrh, both of which are used by religious houses across the world for their purifying properties.

There is scientific research claiming that sage smudging has the ability to eliminate killer germs: http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/killer-germs-obliterated-medicinal-smoke-smudging-study-reveals.

Burning sage releases negative ions into the environment. Negative ions have been shown to increase serotonin levels, regulate blood pressure, purify the air and support healthy immune function.

Read more about positive and negative ions and how they affect you here: http://www.organiclifestylemagazine.com/how-negative-ions-and-positive-ions-affect-our-health and http://www.drsalt.com.au/benefits-negative-ions/.

Research studies have also shown that sage increases clarity, memory and uplifts the mood: http://www.life-enhancement.com/magazine/article/1066-spanish-sage-enhances-memory-improves-mood.

Earth: Gemstones, Basalt stones, Himalayan Salt Stones
Stones also have electromagnetic frequencies and are made up of many of the same elements we are. They also give off negative ions. This is especially true of salt stones.

Himalayan salt is rich in trace minerals. The skin is the largest organ in the human body. The texture of salt stones provides a gentle exfoliation which helps to slough off dead skin cells while the salt neutralizes bacteria.

Gemstones have also been utilized for their healing properties for centuries by different civilizations. Here's a great article written by psychologist, Dr. Kelly Neff: http://themindunleashed.com/2014/10/science-catching-up-ancients-crystal.html.

Basalt stones are formed from cooled volcanic lava. These stones are the ones used in hot stone treatments because they can retain heat for extended periods. The heat helps to bring blood and fluids to the area of the body being worked on. This helps to nourish the muscles and ligaments so that they can more rapidly heal themselves alleviating pain and tension in the body.

Sound Therapy
Sound frequencies have also been shown to produce healing benefits to the human body. I just recently took a continuing education class on the healing benefits of music. Did you know that while listening to music, your body needs 7% less oxygen to do the same work? Even the purring sound/hertz of cats can help to stimulate a healing response in the body. Sound has an anti-inflammatory response by reducing cytokine and acetylcholine levels in the body and increasing the release of endorphins, oxytocin and dopamine.

In this treatment I use Tibetan singing bowls tuned to F & G. The note of F is said to calm heart energy. The note of G is said to calm the voice and throat. Here is a frequency and hertz chart with attributes: http://www.greatdreams.com/hertz.htm. I also use Timsha Bells.  These produce clear harmonic tones that relax the mind and body.

Here's a great article the goes into depth regarding sound frequencies and their healing abilities: http://www.pemft.net/frequency.html

As you can see the benefits to this treatment are many. This one hour treatment is usually $100 but for those on my email list, it is only $50 through the month of July! Sign up and book your appointment today!

Now Offering Meditation Classes

5/5/2017

Now, that I'm offering meditation classes, I would like to address anyone who may have questions about what it exactly entails as I have changed it up a little since my first class.

Meditation is the art of observing your inner state of being without attachment or judgment. It's about finding a still point and just being. Meditation is not about stopping the thoughts or shutting off the brain. It is about developing self-awareness. It is about becoming centered and grounded in your being.

My classes are not religion based but I do work with the highest energies of our planet and the universe. These classes are open to anyone, no matter your belief system and all paths are welcome. I start by everyone taking a moment in silent prayer, where you pray to whatever higher power you believe in: God, Buddha, The Universe, Your Highest Self, etc.

We are all made of up of matter. Our bodies produce electricity. We are energetic beings. Everything around us vibrates at different frequencies. This is not hocus pocus, it is science.
In my classes, the goal is to help you get in touch with and become aware of your own energy so that you may use the tools I teach to cleanse, repair and heal yourself.

In my last class, I offered an analogy: If you walk through a dark room, you cannot see what is ahead of you, what you may bump into or the obstacles in your way. If you walk into the room and turn on the light, you can see everything ahead of you. That is the goal of my classes. To show you there is a switch you can turn on so that you do not stumble in the dark. It's about creating the space for you to be focused within yourself, for you to slow down for a brief moment to become aware of your energy, your space, your inner workings and inner guidance so that can use these tools to make positive change in your life.

If you have any questions, please ask and I will answer to the best of my ability.

What is Amma Massage Therapy?

5/5/2017

Amma Massage is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese & Japanese Medicine. Its origins date back over 5,000 years. The earliest mention of Amma Massage was in an ancient Chinese medical text called the "Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon," which dates to approximately 475 BC. It was introduced more widely to the United States by Tina and Robert Sohn who developed the comprehensive healing art known today as Amma Therapy. Some of us massage therapists were lucky enough to be schooled in Amma directly from the pupils of Robert and Tina Sohn.

Amma Therapy involves the balancing and supporting of the healthy flow of energy (Qi) within the body. It incorporates the principles of yin and yang as well as the five elements. In Amma, it is believed that health is directly related to balancing these principles and that balance eliminates disease. An acupuncturist uses needles whereas, an amma therapist uses their hands to manipulate points on the body's energetic pathways. We incorporate firm pressure strokes along with tapotment, vibration, friction, tissue manipulation and compression. This benefits the musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular and respiratory systems to help your body function normally.

An integral part of a therapeutic Amma massage is the assessment process.  We combine western and eastern medical techniques to properly assess both the energy and the organ function of the patient. Unlike western medicine that only diagnoses by the symptoms, here, we combine two different philosophies to get the bigger picture. We assess the entire mind/body system; observation of the tongue, pulse palpation, diet evaluation, complexion, bowel movements, posture, emotions, vitality, likes and dislikes, smells, tastes and sounds. Every sign is a clue to the body's internal functioning and helps the therapist to ascertain the mental, emotional and physical state of the patient. This in turn, presents the specific treatment techniques needed to help the body eliminate imbalance and restore itself.

Although a more stimulating treatment than say a Swedish massage, it does sedate the nervous system bringing about relaxation. It has been shown to treat a variety of conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, skin conditions, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, respiratory problems and tissue injuries. Because we are targeting the mental, emotional and physical state of the body to achieve balance, this treatment helps the patient to become more aware of the inner workings of their being. Everyone deals with stress and sometimes, we hold on to it without even knowing. Our bodies hold the stress and eventually that stress can manifest as disease. This is one reason why Amma is great for everyone and for a plethora of ailments. Amma massage facilitates and supports the body's innate ability to repair and heal itself by reestablishing its natural order and balance.

My Amma treatment is approximately 60-75 minutes hands on time plus an additional 15-30 minutes allowed for assessment. The total treatment length is 90 minutes. Amma can be performed over comfortable clothing. I do not use any creams, oils or lotions for this treatment. You should arrive 15 minutes early for your first Amma Massage to fill out additional paperwork. To reap the most benefits with Amma, a series of at least 3 weekly massages (1 per week for 3 weeks) is suggested.

I would really like more people to become aware of this great healing art and massage modality so I invite you to make an appointment and give it a try.

Healing with Crystals

2/2/2017

☯

My journey with crystals started over twenty years ago.
I have been consciously studying their healing properties since 1993. Now I find their purpose in my life is more amplified and they have become just a natural extension of my soul's palette. I have found through my own countless experiences, how grateful I am to have stumbled upon an old but new
method of self-discovery through Crystal Healing.

☯
Crystals have been in existence since the formation of our Planet. Imbued with Mother Earth Energy, they welcome one to discover all the wondrous healing gifts that they can offer. Many of their healing properties were acknowledged and used in many Ancient Civilizations. Our continuous evolution on all levels turns our attention towards natural and holistic therapies. Crystals are just one natural resource available to us at this time. Because our physical bodies are aligned with and contain many of the same minerals found in crystals and stones, we can specifically tune into their energy for healing within and without.
☯
Have you ever held a stone and felt it's energy humming in your hand? Have you carried one or wore a particular stone without knowing why? Have you found you are attracted to certain stones? Have you considered that on some level, the Universe is bestowing you with the means to heal Yourself, heal Others and bring you closer to your natural state of being? Just like the old adage states, "Ask and you Shall receive.”  The world of crystals, gemstones and mineral formations is a fascinating one indeed.

☯
I give gratitude for this opportunity to share all the wonderful things
I have learned, experienced and discovered with so many brilliant souls.

As I continue my journey, mastering the art of massage and
energy work with others, using stones are just a natural extension
to enhance my practice and techniques!

☯
It is my intention to provide a truthful and wondrous platform that
can help you discover illuminating insights
into the world of crystals and ultimately within yourself!

STONE OF UNIVERSAL LOVE
POWER STONE
Opens the heart and mind to the beauty within and all around us. This is the most powerful stone used for healing the heart, physically and emotionally. Opens the heart center to receive  gentle warmth and love. Acts as a calming salve to heal emotional wounds and pains. Helps one to accept and give unconditional love to self and others. It has a strong energy that will warm your heart and envelop and protect you with love like a warm, cozy blanket. It teaches forgiveness, tolerance and brotherly love.

Happy New Year!

I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and are moving forward with positive momentum for the New Year! This month I'm introducing two new treatments: Fire & Ice Massage and Himalayan Sea Salt Muscle Scrub (see below for discount).

Beginning in February, I will be offering group meditation classes on the last Sunday of every month.  The classes run about 30-45 minutes for only a $10 investment per class. You will learn relaxation and focus tools to use every day. You can sign up directly through the website, www.JJKLMT.com. The first one will be on Sunday, February 26th, 2017 at 1 pm. You must reserve your spot in advance. More classes to come!

I will be offering spontaneous flash specials on my Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/massagetherapyJJK/

Thank you to everyone for coming along on this new journey with me! I'm looking forward to expanding my services this year and providing the same high quality treatments that are customized to each person. I want you to feel like this is your time to relax without the distractions of a busy space. If you haven't already, I hope you book a treatment. Now that I'm on my own, I can ensure that proper sanitary measures are being taken. For example, I do not repeat use blankets. Everyone gets a clean blanket. Also, I block out 30 minutes after each treatment so no one ever has to feel hurried even if you are a few minutes late (sometimes, it happens), I will still be able to accommodate you without it cutting into anyone's massage time. When you book online, you don't have to provide your credit card to hold an appointment unless of course you want to pay for your treatment at that time. You can also cancel or reschedule your appointment on your own. I want to reinvent the standard and raise it to where it should be. Thank you for your support. Happy New Year!

December 2016

Greetings Everyone,

Things are rolling along nicely at my new office! This month I'm offering two specials (scroll down for code). I have also added on some new packages and gift certificate options to the website. If you would like to purchase a gift certificate, you can do so online at www.JJKLMT.com or in person, at my office. Just let me know when you want to stop by to pick it up. Gift wrapping and gift bag are complimentary.

One of my new packages is called "A Gift of Pampering": It includes a 60 minute massage, a 30 minute "Pamper Your Feet" massage and a 30 minute "Sinus Treatment." The cost of the package is $150 but with this month's special, you can use the code below to get 30% off! You can't beat that deal for two hours of massage!

Thank you very much for your loyalty and patronage!

FAQ's:

Parking?
There is a parking lot down the driveway in the back of the house. You do not have to park on the street!

Last Minute Appointments?
To book online, you must give 24 hours notice. If you need a last minute appointment, please call or text me directly at (631) 620-1430.

Credit Cards?
At this time, I am only accepting credit cards through the website via PayPal. This option is available when you book an appointment or want to purchase a gift certificate or package online.

Appointment lengths?
When I was planning out this new venture, I decided that I wanted to do something different than the standard 30, 60, 90 minute massages. I added 15 minutes to each treatment. This may change in the future but so far, I am receiving great feedback on the extra time!  It's the little things!

Massage Membership?
At this time, I'm not offering a massage membership. I don't believe in memberships to get massages. I think everyone should freely book massages as they need to or when they want to without restriction or obligation. I'm keeping things simple!

Instead, I will be offering monthly specials, package discounts as well as spontaneous specials on my Facebook Page so keep your eyes peeled for those!
